“Move to a VPS at 50,000 visitors a month” is not a threshold. The same machine can be comfortable or stuck depending on cache and plugins. The decision is the error you can see in the panel: PHP time, memory, or a service you cannot install without root.
EuroVDC WordPress hosting runs in Sofia, at Neterra. The plan includes free SSL, automatic updates and daily backups. WordPress hosting keeps you in the panel. A cloud server gives you root. They are not two names for the same invoice.
Stay on WordPress hosting
- The site is WordPress or plain PHP, plus mail and a cron or two.
- You do not need to write the updates and the backup yourself.
- If the error is “the plugin wants this function”, the fix is the plugin, not root.
Move to a cloud server
- The PHP memory or time limit in the panel still dies on the same page after you have cleaned up.
- You need Redis, a queue, a custom port, or an application that is not WordPress.
- A contract requires a tool that will not install without root.
The move is not “zip the files and forget”. Lower DNS TTL a day earlier, open the database dump on the new machine, issue the certificate there, then change the A record. Moving and changing nameservers on the same afternoon creates the outage.
Five checks in the panel before you move
If the decision is not a visitor count, the move is not a zip file. Write these down from the source panel before you take root:
- PHP version. If the target does not have the same version, a plugin breaks before the move is finished.
- Cron. If tasks run from the WordPress hosting panel, scheduled posts and backup jobs stop on a cloud server until a system cron exists.
- Mail. If mailboxes live on
securemail.eurovdc.eu, do not touch MX. Moving the site is not moving mail onto the VPS disk. - The test. Point the new IP only in your own hosts file and open the admin login and one product page. DNS does not change until that test passes.
- Licences. Some plugins are locked to the domain name. If admin says “unlicensed” after the move, the problem is the key, not root access.
When those five are done, a cloud server is useful. When they are not, staying on WordPress hosting causes the smaller outage.
Frequently asked questions
Does WooCommerce always need a VPS?
No. It needs one when orders and plugins fill the panel. If they do not, WordPress hosting is enough. The panel error sets the line, not a round visitor count.
Does the cloud server include the daily backup?
The automatic backup on a shared plan does not follow you onto a root machine. After you move, you build the backup or you buy it as its own service. “It was included in hosting” is not a line on the VPS invoice.
Is Sofia slower than Frankfurt?
We do not answer that with an invented millisecond. The looking glass on the datacenter page is there so you can measure. The decision is where your visitors are and the time you measured.
Should I buy both?
The WordPress site can stay on hosting while a queue or a private API sits on the cloud server. Stacking both on one address collects two invoices of trouble on one screen.
